        htchiu@chiuserv.ac.nctu.edu.tw

Dr. Hiroshi Yosihda (Hiroshima University, Japan)

Prof. Robert F. Toia (University of San Francisco, U.S.A.)
        toiar@usfca.edu

Prof. Charles Fogliani (Charles Sturt University, Australia)
        cfogliani@csu.edu.au

Date and Time
        November 22 (Monday): 13:30--

Scope of the session: "Internet and Chemistry" (or "Internet and Chemical Education"?)
The development of the Internet have changed the way of communcation on the world-wide basis. This also holds in the field of chemistry and chemical education. The world-wide web sites with a wide variety of data serves as a data source for learning and research. In addition, with the help of cgi, java, and various add-in utilities, it is now expected to work as a tool for self-learning and distant education. Many attempts have been made, and much more is planned and in preparation.

In this session, the talks by the selected panelists shall be focused on the present situation and future prospect, obstacles against its realization, and the way to overcome it, rather than on the retrospect--what have already been made. Then the discussion will be made among panelists and audience.

An on-line session is planned on the Internet, at the Asian-Pacific Chemical Education Network (ACEN) web site, which is open to anyone who wishes. This is aimed at widening and enhancing the awareness and discussion on the subject. In additon to the abstract for the congress programme, an on-line materials containing an outline of the speech is delivered by the panelists. To it, anyone can add queries and comments. Replies might also be put back by the panelists or even others who are watching.
