Asian Chemical Education Network inaugural meeting

The Asian Chemical Education Network (ACEN) held its inaugural meeting on 14 July 1996 at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. The meeting was conducted during the opening day of the 14th International Conference on Chemical Education which was organized by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, Chemical Education Division on behalf of the IUPAC Committee on the Teaching of Chemistry.


During the meeting, the objectives of the Network were presented by Prof . Yoshito Takeuchi, ACEN Director. He also discussed the planned activities of the network and a vision of its expansion into a World Chemical Education Network. Prof. Ito elaborated on the use of the Internet, in particular the World-Wide Web (WWW), for the dissemination of the activities of the ACEN projects.

Dr. Ma. Cristina Padolina, co-director of ACEN, gave some remarks on the establishment of the network. Dr. David Clift likewise talked on the need for a regional network on chemical education. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Barry Noller, FACS Coordinator of Projects.
