Due to the worldwide development of COVID-19 (new coronavirus), STEP-5 is postponed, without exact schedule. The new plan will be announced in due course. Please keep yourself safe, and informed.
The 5-th international workshop on
Static-Tribo-Electricity of Powder
27-29, May, 2020
The University of Newcastle, Newcastle, Australia
STEP is a discussion-based international workshop on tribo-electricity and particle charging. The workshop scope covers a range of fundamental and applied topics related, but not limited to, the mechanism of generation of electrostatic charge, control of charged particles, measurement of electrostatic charge, and other topics related to tribo-electrisity. The workshop is open to all researchers and engineers in the field of Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and others. The STEP workshop provides an international forum to enable researchers and engineers in the field of tribo-electricity to have interactive dialog and to establish an international network.

NOTE: the City Campus is a different location out of the main campus, it is reachable from Newcastle Interchange (tram station).
- transportation and accommodation:
- to Newcastle:
- transportation: International flights arrive at Sydney Airport. There are several options to get to Newcastle:
- Train — Catch the train from Sydney Airport to Central (Sydney), then change to a train to Newcastle Interchange. Note that you will require an Opal Card for this (very similar to the Oyster Card in London), which can be purchased at the station. The easiest way to get to the venue is to catch a tram from the Newcastle Interchange. It is also a short distance to the venue and to most hotels by taxi or Uber.
- Greyhound Australia offer several coach services a day from Sydney Airport International Terminal to Newcastle Museum, which is within easy walking distance of the venue and close to most hotels.
- Hire car / taxi — please indicate if this is your preferred option, and your expected arrival date / time at Sydney Airport, and if practical we will arrange pooling.
- Useful information: HOW TO GET FROM Sydney to Newcastle Interchange
- accommodation (Newcastle): please book a hotel room by yourself. Suggestions below are not exclusive. There are plenty of hotel options around the University of Newcastle City Campus, near by Newcastle Interchange (tram station).
- to Sydney: If you join the tour at The University of Sydney School of Pharmacy on 29th, please be reminded to book a hotel room in Sydney at the night, if necessasry.
- transportation: We will move to Sydney in the morning of 29th as a group. The details will be announced later.
- Catch the train from Newcastle Interchange to Sydney Central Station unless we have bulk transport for the whole group.
- Travelling from Railway Square to The University of Sydney School of Pharmacy: Catch a bus from Railway Square (Bus routes 412, 413, 422, 436, 438, 439, 440, 461, 480, 483, L38, L39, M10). Get off at The University of Sydney Footbridge bus stop, which is about 1.6 km west and takes about 5 mins by bus. You can also walk along Broadway and Parramatta Road to where that bus stop is, which takes about 20 mins on foot. From that bus stop walk up the steps and go straight ahead. DO NOT cross the footbridge. You will then reach Science Road and see the Pharmacy and Bank Building (A15) diagonally opposite on the left.
